Badges Needed for Police Museum

The California Police Museum has an exhibit with a state map featuring a badge from each of the 58 counties. Unfortunately, we are short a few badges and are seeking donations to complete the collection. Your donation will be greatly appreciated and is tax deductable based on our 501(c)(3) status. Life Membership Now an Option

The California Law Enforcement Historical Society Board of Director's voted to establish a life membership category. An adjustment to our bylaws was approved authorizing the new status. Our Secretary/Treasurer, Brian Smith, conducted research into the life membership offered by other organization and provided imput into the process and pricing. San Luis Obispo Show a Huge Success

The annual San Luis Obispo Collector's Show held on July 12, 2008, was a very successful event. All 50 tables were sold through pre-reservation. This year's show featured the California Police Museum which was appreciated by all who viewed it. The common explative used upon entry into the museum was "Wow," indicating their approval. We still need some artifacts and accepted a few during the show. More to follow in the upcoming issue of the California Police Historian. Of course, you must be a member to receive the publication.

One objective of the San Luis Obispo show is to encourage the display of collections. This year's exhibits were outstanding and the judges had a tough time making their decisions based on the high quality presented.

Fire Conditions for San luis Obispo Show

There has been some changing wind patterns resulting in the appearnce of ash and smell of smoke in the San Luis Obispo area. These conditions are not severe and should have no impact on the collector's show. No traffic advisors are posted for Highway 101 with no fire related delays expected.

California Wildfires Not Impacting San Luis Obispo Show

California has a large number of wildfires burning out of control in the State. At this point, none of the fires have created any travel concerns for attending the San Luis Obispo collector's show scheduled for this upcoming weekend.

The Goleta (Santa Barbara) fire will be visible from Highway 101, for those traveling from the Southern California area. However, the fire is in the mountains North of the highway and not expected to impact traffic. Those considering taking highway 154 from Santa Barbara through Santa Ynez, as a shortcut, should avoid the route.

Northern California travelers should find find no difficulties traveling on Highway 101 or 46, except for reduced visibility due to smoke.

The air quality in San Luis Obispo has returned to normal as the traditional wind pattern has returned. Tee heat is expected to increase this weekend in the inland areas which tends to draw cool air and fog from the ocean. Bring a sweatshirt or light jacket for evening.

Overall, conditions are expected to be great for the show.

San Luis Obispo Show a Total Sell-Out

The San Luis Obispo Collector's show scheduled for July 12, 2008, is a total sell-out. The 50 tables dedicated for the show have all been reserved with the auditorium filled to capacity. Table reservations have been made by collectors from throughout the State, as well as Nevada.

San Luis Obispo is located on the California Coast mid-way between Los Angeles and San Francisco making it an ideal location for a state-wide show. The cooler summer climate is also a big draw for the event as the rest of California swelters.

Doors open at 9:00 AM for collectors with free admission to members of the California Law Enforcement Historical Society. Additionally, the California Police Museum will be open during the show hours which is free to all.

Board of Directors Annual Meeting -Change Notice-

The annual meeting of the California Law Enforcment Historical Society has moved to July 11, 2008, at 5:30 PM. It will be held at the home of society President, Gary Hoving and preceed the collectors reception. This is a change from past years. All society members are welcome.
